After approval of the Minutes, Dr. Allen Spiegel gave his Dean’s report. He announced that there were no updates since his last report. He then formally announced the 12 faculty that were awarded tenure in the past academic year. Of these, seven were untenured Full Professors that received tenure, four were Associate Professors that became Full Professors with tenure, and one lateral appointment awarded tenure.

In his Speaker’s Report, Dr. Jeffrey Segall reported on the past two Council meetings. There are searches ongoing for a Cancer Center Director, for Chairs at three Departments (Radiology, Surgery and Psychiatry) and faculty recruitments at the Liver Center and at the Departments of Neuroscience and Biochemistry.

Dr. Sherry Downie, on the behalf of Dr. Kelvin Davies, the Chair of the Committee on Committees, asked the Senate for approval of Dr. Susmita Bagchi’s as new member at the Committee on Committees to replace Dr. Titto Augustine, the former member and representative from the Einstein Post-Doctoral Association. Senate voted and approved.

Ms. Carla Pasquali (Director of Benefits Office) and Ms. Yvonne Ramirez (Vice President of Human Resources and Diversity Office), gave a slide presentation and discussed issues related to the modifications to the Faculty Benefits that are going to take place in 2017.

Dr. John Blanchard, Department of Biochemistry, proposed to the Senate a motion to ask the Committee on Committees to formulate a Senate Advisory Committee on the reappointment of the Dean. The motion was approved.
