Senate Meeting: Wednesday, February 1, 2017

After approval of the Minutes, Dr. Allen Spiegel gave his Dean’s report which comprised of four topics. One item regarded the appointment of Dr. Burks as the new Associate Dean for the graduate medical education at Jacobi. The second item regarded the 2017 budget requesting a merit pool salary increase for those deserving. The third topic referred to the national demonstration organized by the medical students at Einstein against the repeal of the ACA and in this occasion the Dean and Dr. Steve Safyer read a statement of support, a copy of which is appended to the Senate Minutes. The last item concerned the actions taken at Einstein regarding the national security executive order.
In his Speaker’s report, Dr. Jeffrey Segall reported on two Council meetings which were mainly focused on identifying topics to be included as agenda items for the future Senate Council meetings. These items are posted on the Einstein Senate website.
Dr. Angeliki Vgontzas, a neurology resident, proposed to the Senate a vote for a resolution regarding the executive order 13769 on immigration. After discussion, the Senate approved the document which is appended to the Senate Minutes.
Mr. Gordon Earle, Associate Dean, Public Affairs and Communications, Mr. Najam Hayat, Director, Interactive Media, Ms Karen Gardner, Director, Internal & Web Communications gave a presentation about the new Einstein Homepage and Intranet which were launched recently.
