Ed Burns and Jed Shivers presented on mechanisms for determining merit increases, COLA raises, and other salary adjustments. Merit increases for nonbargaining unit staff and faculty were approved by the board retroactive to January 1 and planned to be provided by April 28th. It had been 2.5 years since the last one, although last year faculty with >70% salary coverage did receive a 2% salary increase. This is not a cost of living increase – medical schools in the NYC area are not known to have provided cost of living raises in a number of years. The total dollar amount for the merit increase is about $2.6 million - roughly $1.5 million from the college and the remainder from grants. About $785,000 goes to nonfaculty and $1.86 million for faculty and associates. For each department the amount is 2.5% of the aggregate salaries –the chairs then decide how it is distributed.
The rally that took place at Einstein where Governor Cuomo promised $50 million to Montefiore was discussed.
The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
