Senate Meeting: Wednesday, June 7, 2017

After approval of the Minutes, Dr. Allen Spiegel gave his Dean’s report. The first item related to the award of Tenure for the current academic year that was approved by the Einstein Board; Dean Spiegel announced the names of the 10 tenured faculty which are: Luciano D’Adamio in Microbiology & Immunology, Yousin Suh in Genetics, Bin Zhou in Genetics, Jose Pena in Neuroscience, Ganjam Kalpana in Genetics, Antonio Di Cristofano in Developmental & Molecular Biology, Hannes Buelow in Genetics, Ulrich Steidl in Cell Biology, and Kartik Chandran in Microbiology & Immunology, and Michael Ross the new division Chief of Nephrology. The second topic related to updates on searches for the directorship of Cancer Center and of Pediatric Oncology, and for Chairs for the departments of Radiology and Neurosurgery. The third and last topic reported by the Dean related to the degree granting process, and he announced that the school will soon achieve a candidate status, a degree granting status.

Dr. Jeffrey Segall, in his Speaker’ report summarized the two previous Council meetings since last Senate meeting. Items discussed were the post-doc and student housing and IT issues. Summaries of these two Council meetings can be found in the Senate website. Dr. Segall also mentioned that the position Secretary to the Senate will be open in the fall for those who might be interested in serving. The last item presented by the Speaker was about his presentation to the Board dealing with the Senate functions.

Ms. Yvonne Ramirez, Vice President of Human Resources & Diversity Officer, introduced Mr. Hank Linden, the Vice President of Client Services at Montefiore, who gave a presentation on Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). The presentation is available on the Senate web site.

Dr. Pamela Stanley, Chair of the Faculty Interactions Committee, gave an update on faculty salary distribution spanning 2013-2017. The presentation is available on the Senate web site.

Dean Spiegel, as the last item of the agenda, read his message broadcasted to the school announcing that he will not seek a fourth term as Dean of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
