There was a discussion of the function of the Senate Council as more useful as a sounding board for ideas, advice and consent to avoid being repetitive with discussions at the Senate meeting.

The leadership change at Montefiore was discussed. It has slowed things down a bit over the summer. A strategic plan for Einstein may be developed after the transition has taken place. However, it was noted that it is critical to maintain hiring of new faculty during this process.

Challenges regarding hiring of new basic science faculty were discussed. In addition, clinical research faculty salary support is needed in order to support current clinical programs and develop new ones.

The Senate Finance Committee will meet on September 23 – a report could be provided after that.
