- Meeting minutes from the Jun 3, 2020 Senate Council were discussed and revised.
- Diversity and inclusion, as well as mechanisms to address bias and discrimination were discussed. To promote diversity and inclusion among the Faculty Senate members, a short statement will be included to Chairs as Departments decide upon their Senate representatives for 2020-2021.
- Continued phase II reopening of Einstein was summarized by Dean Tomaselli. The health check/reporting system is working well. On the clinical side, elective surgeries and other normal activities have resumed. Students have returned to clinical rotations.
- The health advisory issued by Governor Cuomo regarding 14-day quarantine for travelers from states with high COVID-19 rates was discussed. This will affect some incoming students and post-doctoral fellows. The list of states that are included on the health advisory is likely to change as the summer goes on.
- Dean Tomaselli indicated that generation of the Montefiore (and Einstein) strategic plans – which were put on pause due to COVID-19 – would resume and be adapted for the “postCOVID19” world.
- The Presidential executive order on student visas, and their potential impact on Einstein, was discussed.
- Updates were provided on the search for the new Cancer Center Director, and Chairs of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesia.
The meeting adjourned at 3:02 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jonathan Lai, Ph.D.
Vice Speaker, Einstein Senate
