- Meeting minutes from the Sep 16, 2020 Senate Council were approved.
- Neil Kaplan joined the meeting to discuss the purview and role of the Quality of Life (QoL) Committee, as well as the upcoming survey. The QoL and survey are meant to provide an opportunity for all employees of Einstein to provide input and raise any issues. Although the QoL seeks feedback from all employees, including members of the Einstein 1199 Union, the questions in the survey and the role of the QoL is specifically designed to avoid interfering with Einstein 1199 Union affairs. Above all else, the QoL and survey are meant to be a conduit for listening and to identify any pressing issues for all members of the Einstein community.
- Dean Tomaselli provided updates on the Montefiore Strategic Management plan and COVID-19 testing plan.
- Dean Tomaselli announced that Kathleen Kearns has been appointed as Sr. Vice President for Development and Chief Philanthropy Officer; she was previously VP of Development at the NY Genome Center and has extensive experience in development for biomedical sciences.
- Dr. Burns provided an update on the Middle States Accreditation and site visit.
- The on-going negotiation for the Einstein 1199 Union benefits were discussed.
- The Council discussed strategies to increase opportunities for faculty development. There is currently a seminar series for topics such as Endnote, Excel, but perhaps these could be expanded (for example, to include Zoom) and, in some cases, recorded as a continual resource. An issue with the current faculty development seminar series is that it can be difficult for some to attend with clinical responsibilities
The meeting adjourned at 3:57 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jonathan Lai, Ph.D.
Vice Speaker, Einstein Senate
