ALBERT EINSTEIN COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
MINUTES OF SENATE COUNCIL MEETING
April 2, 2008, 3pm


PRESENT: Dr. Spiegel, Drs. Weidenheim, Cohen, Birshtein, Blanchard, Etgen, Segall, Townsend, Walker, Ms. Chrisman, Drs. Baum, Burns.
Excused: Dr. Mehler
Absent: Drs. Keller, Olson, Schuster, Battinelli, Safyer, Shulkin, Mr. Walsh

I. The minutes of the previous Senate Council meeting held on March 19, 2008 were corrected and approved.

II. Updates from the Dean:
Chair Searches. Dr. Robert Michler has accepted the Chair in Surgery. Dr. John Backer is the new Director of the Belfer Institute. The search for a Chair for Ophthalmology is ongoing.

Board of Overseers. The Board will meet on April 9. Drs. Baum and Steven Cohen (Dermatology) will discuss medical students and their residency match choices, especially regarding the choice of primary care versus specialty training.

June Senate Agenda. Dr. Steven Safyer, the new President of Montefiore Medical Center, will report on his vision for Montefiore.

U.S. News and World Report Medical School Rankings. AECOM has declined in the rankings since 1995 except for 2002. It was noted that 20% of the survey is composed of data from Residency Program Directors. AECOM rose to 36 from 39 in the current ranking.

III. Minutes of the Senate meetings. The proper composition and distribution of the Senate Minutes was discussed.

IV. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned and the group attended the Senate meeting.
