RDC provides funding for Pilot and Feasibility studies and enhances and supports E-NSC science at Einstein. This Core has expanded to identify new faculty who have potential for "conversion" to aging research and provide continuous mentoring through grant applications, and to assist junior faculty and investigators new to aging research. RDS also provides formal education in the biology of aging to recipients of P&F funding and anyone who wants to benefit from part or all of the formal graduate course.
Einstein Nathan Shock Center for Excellence Pilot & Feasibility Study
The Pilot and Feasibility Program, a vital
component of the Einstein NIH Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic
Biology of Aging, will provide initial support for new investigators, allow
established investigators to explore new directions, and enable the Center to
attract scientists from other disciplines to Biology of Aging Research.
The Institute for Aging Studies has funds
available through the Nathan Shock Center Award to support several new Pilot
and Feasibility Studies in the next fiscal year (December 2017). These awards are given for one year and are NOT renewable; however
funded investigator may apply for a second year funding, which will be reviewed
with the new proposals.
As we are inaugurating soon a Cognitive Core
for aging research at Golding Building, we encourage you to think of mechanism
of aging that may be relevant to cognition. One award will allow you to spend
the money on cognitive testing.
This year we plan to
fund two types of awards:
- Three projects on biology of aging, $25,000 each for 1 year
- One projects on biology of cognitive decline/Alzheimer’s disease, $25,000 for 1 year
Eligibility
All academic full-time faculty are eligible to apply. Projects will be
considered on any aspect of fundamental or applied research relating to
physiological aging and age-related disorders. The program is designed to
support:
- New investigators with interest in aging-related research.
- Established investigators in other disciplines who wish to begin research related to aging.
- Established investigators working in aging-related research, who wish to begin a new project representing a major departure from their previous research.

preliminary data will have a priority:

Application
Applications should follow the NIH R01 format (form PHS 398) but reduced in
length. Your application must include an
abstract, budget, a research plan that does not exceed 4 pages, other support
data, and NIH biosketch. Applications do not
require institutional internal review or Dean's signature.
Application deadline is November 4, 2016.
