Implementation science is the “study of methods to promote the adoption and integration of evidence-based practices, interventions, and policies into routine health care and public health settings to improve the impact on population health” (National Institutes of Health). The Einstein CTSA Health Research Implementation Core strives to bring together researchers and operational leaders across Montefiore Einstein to further implementation science and its positive impact on our patients and community.
The Health Research Implementation Core provides resources for designing and implementing research programs that efficiently translate effective strategies to improve health into practice in clinical settings and the community through expertise in patient centered outcomes research (PCOR), comparative effectiveness research (CER) and dissemination and implementation science (DIS). The Core partners with the Montefiore Care Management Organization, Office of Community and Population Health, and Montefiore Medical Group.
The Goals of the Health Research Implementation Core are to:
- Facilitate multidisciplinary health research that engages the clinical delivery system
- Advance MHS as a vehicle for implementation and dissemination of research advances
Services:
- Consultative services for faculty and staff interested in implementation science research
- Monthly works-in-progress seminars for faculty and staff pursuing implementation science research
- Organizing quarterly Implementation Science Grand Rounds for internal and external participants

Education and training:
HRIC leadership also supports the Center of Excellence in Promoting Learning Healthcare System (LHS) Operations and Research at Montefiore Einstein (EXPLORE). This K12 grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, supports junior faculty to train in and pursue LHS research and operational improvements throughout Montefiore Einstein. As a result of EXPLORE, current and past scholars have achieved Board Certified in Biomedical Informatics, completed Lean Six Sigma training, Implementation Science Certificates, Performance Improvement fellowships and over 35 manuscripts and multiple submitted and successful grants.
EXPLORE Scholars Cohort 1: 4 Scholars completed EXPLORE from 2019-2021, pursuing projects on:
- Targeted Opioid Prescribing at THA/TKA Discharge
- Risk Stratification and Care Management of Complex Patients with Social Determinants of Health Needs in Primary Care
- Sepsis and Septic Shock Early Recognition and Management
- Spinal Cord Compression Early Recognition and Prevention
Their current positions following EXPLORE include Chief Medical Officer at SWORD Health, System Medical Director of Spine Quality, Director of Quality Science, Director- Social Determinants of Health & Executive Director, Community Health Systems Lab.
EXPLORE Scholars Cohort 2: 2 Scholars are completing EXPLORE in 2021-2023 and 2 Scholars are completing EXPLORE in 2021-2024 along with the Einstein CRTP program. They are pursuing projects on:
