Family & Social Medicine Interest Group (FSMIG)

The Family and Social Medicine interest group (FSMIG) brings together students interested in community health, social justice, and the Bronx community. Each year we invite physicians and their patients to our campus to speak about issues relevant to the community such as the follow: Immigrant Health, Alternative Medicine, HIV, Adolescent Sexual Health and Liberation Medicine. We also co-host Family Medicine career night and a range of other events such as a hands-on manual vacuum aspiration on a papaya workshop. Our members are also active in organizing the Social Medicine course that runs from January to May. The Social Medicine course covers a range of topics from Harm Reduction in the Bronx to Women’s Reproductive Health.

The members of the FSMIG are passionate about serving the community, educating themselves and getting involved in the issues that impact the people of Bronx. The FSMIG Board are leaders, activists, and students with a social conscience that want to make a difference. The FSMIG members realize the impact physicians and future physicians have on the communities we live and work in. If you are moved by this message come join us.
