Family & Social Medicine Data Unit
About
The Department’s data unit is comprised of a core team of analysts devoted to clinical data curation activities for both research and clinical practice-related purposes. These activities primarily serve DFSM faculty across our three divisions (clinical, education, and research) and other Montefiore Einstein clinical and research teams seeking informatics support. The data unit use in-house expertise and resources to extract, manage, and analyze data from the electronic health record system (EHR), which houses patient records across all Montefiore facilities and its full spectrum of services and care delivery (inpatient, ambulatory, emergency, surgical, pharmacy, imaging, appointments, and more).
Data Unit Projects
Our data unit supports a range of projects originating in primary care and community health settings as well as those from clinical specialties across Montefiore Einstein. All requests are reviewed by our team, followed by a consultation process to refine project scope, ensure feasibility, and determine fees as applicable.
- Clinical registries are large scale projects that identify a subset of patients matching specific conditions and pull pertinent data into a provider-facing format for improved continuity of care. For example, our Prenatal Registry locates the records of all clinic patients who are pregnant, allowing clinicians to easily track visits and monitor health status to ensure these patients do not fall out of care.
- Data requests can be submitted for a variety of project types such as grant proposals, funded and pilot stage research studies, quality improvement (QI) projects, conference presentations, resident/trainee education, and administrative requests. These project deliverables typically include tables, reports, or prepared datasets accompanied by a Data Dictionary, with additional analytic and statistical support is available on a case-by-case basis.
