Primary Care & Social Internal Medicine Mission

Our Mission, Vision and Values

We are an internal medicine residency training program rooted in an academic medical center in the Bronx.

Our vision is to challenge the status quo and reimagine resident education and the practice of medicine in order to improve healthcare for everyone.

We are committed to examining the existing healthcare system, frequent self-reflection, and continuous personal and programmatic evolution. We work in solidarity with the Bronx community and will use the tools available to meet the needs of our time.

Primary Care & Social Internal Medicine Social Medicine

What is Social Medicine?

Social medicine is the practice of seeking to understand the social context of patients and communities and working to remediate the impact of negative circumstances on the health of our Bronx patients. Social medicine aspires to ensure health by drawing on community strengths to address the social determinants of health.
