Think Safety

Overview

Over the past couple of years, the College of Medicine’s safety initiative, Think Safety!, has focused on making safety a top priority for everyone on Einstein’s Jack and Pearl Resnick Campus. The initiative was spearheaded by Einstein’s safety committee, under the direction of co-chairs Yvonne Ramirez, Vice President of Human Resources, and Jared Shapiro, Associate Vice President, Environmental Health and Safety.

The program includes this website and a dedicated e-mail account where every Einstein student or employee can report safety problems or concerns 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and, it allows anyone to suggest safety improvements.

To encourage complete openness in communication, all submissions can be made anonymously. Anyone on campus who is uncomfortable reporting through the Think Safety system is encouraged to contact a member of the safety committee directly. A full list of committee members, which is drawn from every area of campus, is listed on this website and includes individual contact information.

In addition, the dedicated e-mail for Think Safety! is thinksafety@einsteinmed.org, and the phone number for reporting potential safety issues is 718.430.4150.

Safety Is First and Foremost

Some key things to keep in mind include:

  • Paying attention to and executing correct safety practices
  • Providing proper supervision or assistance when it's needed.
  • Reporting safety issues when you see them, so they can be addressed.

In addition to promoting improved safety on campus, the program also recognizes Einstein employees who are making Einstein a safer place. Quarterly awards are handed out in a number of areas and categories, with annual recognition at Einstein’s Service Awards Ceremony given to the person who has contributed the most to safety at Einstein each year.

This safety initiative is intended to create awareness, to promote creativity and teamwork, and to emphasize the values of Einstein from the cafeteria to the classroom to the laboratory.

Message from Executive Dean

Making Einstein a great place to work is in everyone’s job description. As part of that effort, we employ our safety initiative, Think Safety! – and we invite you to join in.

"Think Safety!" is more than a slogan, it is a way of being. Through the Think Safety! program, every Einstein employee can immediately report a safety problem or concern or suggest safety improvements.

Our Think Safety! Award program recognizes Einstein employees who are making Einstein a safer place to be.

Safety and security are central to the Einstein equation of excellence. We hope you will be a part of it.

Edward R. Burns, M.D.
