The regulation requiring Certificate of Fitness for laboratories in New York City is under provisions outlined in "The Fire Department Rules", Section 4827-01(g)(l) and NFPA 45 of 2004.

Bloodborne Pathogen training is required for employees who have occupational exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. This training is required annually by the Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Individuals who wish to work with radioactive material must receive hands-on training in working with the material in the laboratory and must receive Radiation Safety Training from EH&S. An individual knowledgeable in the use of the particular radioisotope and experimental technique to be used by the new researcher should provide the training to new users.
