Although export controls issues can arise in many distinct types of academic research, certain academic fields are at higher risk, including those involving human, plant, or animal bacteria, viruses, fungi, and toxins.
Collaborations between Einstein researchers and those at foreign institutions typically do not require an export license or specific approvals. However, before engaging in an international collaboration, confirm that your collaboration does not,
- include export-controlled items or information
- involve a scholar from a restricted or sanctioned country
Contact the Office of General Counsel if you have any concerns and Einstein will verify that the foreign individual or organization is not a blocked or sanctioned entity (a “restricted party”).
