Senate Meeting: Wednesday, November 4, 2015

Allen Spiegel provided a brief update about the search for Chair of Medicine and for Executive Director of Development at Einstein. The Dean mentioned that his presentations at both Einstein and Montefiore Board meetings highlighting the extraordinary accomplishments of some of Einstein Faculty were very much appreciated. Dean Spiegel invited Salvatore Ciampo to report on the power problem at the three residence halls.

Jeffrey Segall reported that the initial part of the October Senate Minutes is missing due to a failure of the audio recording system and that now on two simultaneous and independent recording systems will in place to avoid such problem. He reminded Senate Officials to nominate and vote for the ongoing selection of Senate Council members. The last point on the Speaker’s report referred to the Tenure policy, specifically to confusions related to the understanding of sections 1.5 and 2.2. Segall suggested having a committee formed to look at these sections. A motion to form such committee was made and all voted to approve it.

Kelvin Davis, on the behalf of Maureen Charron, presented a list of nominees for membership on the Committee on Committees for Senate approval.

Pamela Stanley, Chair of the Faculty Interactions Committee, informed about a survey asking for suggestions to enhance the interaction among Faculties.

Cecilia Haas, Thomas Meier, and Marika Osterbur (Quality of Life Committee) presented the results from the last year’s Quality of Life survey.
