The minutes were approved with a modification to clarify the proposal to be made for presentation to the science council as being for larger cooperative grants.
A subcommittee of council members composed of Prasad, Birshtein and Segall has been formed to poll the faculty regarding grant writing assistance concepts. The committee is in the process of gathering information on a departmental basis. On this topic, an additional possibility was raised of pilot testing of services for subsets of R01s. Language, grantsmanship, and actual science are potential categories of grant writing assistance that could be considered. Potential categories of grants that might considered are grants that are near the payline, or unscored applications by junior investigators could be considered. Online agencies, local departmental training courses or 1-3 day courses could be considered.
Constructive ways that tenured faculty without grant support can contribute to the institution were discussed.
The meeting adjourned at 3:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeffrey E. Segall, Ph.D.
Speaker, Einstein Senate
