MINUTES OF SENATE COUNCIL MEETING

  1. Meeting minutes from the Sept 1, 2021 were discussed and revised.
  2. Issues for post-doctoral housing were discussed, particularly effects of hurricane Ida on parking/car damage and elevators. Dean Tomaselli highlighted the efforts of Drs. Anne Bresnick and Mary Anne Clifford of the Belfer Institute to address these and indicated any efforts to help should be coordinated with them.
  3. Dean Tomaselli updated the Council on Departmental reorganization and reviewed the timeline. In Nov 2019, the process for the reorganization began. A taskforce was convened and the Chairs were consulted, leading to the recommendation to downsize by two departments with those faculty being absorbed into other departments.
  4. Dean Tomaselli updated the Council on the Montefiore strategic management plan, which is ongoing. There was renewed discussion about the possibility of creating a “research institute” within Einstein. Additionally, there were discussion of formation of a campus-wide (Einstein and Montefiore) Hematology and Oncology Department.
  5. Dr. Benfield provided an update on activities of the DE&I Council, particularly on the mentor training program that is being established. There was also a general discussion of supporting women faculty. Dean Tomaselli was highly supportive but acknowledged that more needed to be done on this front.
  6. There was a discussion about availability of COVID19 testing for students. Many have found it easiest to walk-in at Jacobi.
