Evaluation includes feedback and testing. Performance is evaluated by the attending physician with frequent feedback throughout the rotation, formal review at the end of the rotation, and written completion of specially-designed forms (including a bi-directional evaluation, the fellows’ of the faculty being anonymous, through myevaluations.com) that are maintained in the trainee’s record.
Frequent evaluation and constructive feedback are essential for fellows to learn and grow during their training. Feedback and performance will be discussed with each fellow, both during and at the end of the rotation.
Fellows have an annual in-service exam that includes questions on the technical aspects of echocardiography and image interpretation of common cardiovascular diseases.
Fellow and faculty evaluations are officially documented each month using a web-based evaluation system. Fellows are evaluated monthly by the faculty members with whom they have worked using the standard ABIM competency categories, as well as rotation-specific learning objectives set forth by the echo director.
