Jonathan Ross, MDThe General Internal Medicine Fellowship Program welcomes Dr. Jonathan Ross, who began the research fellowship in July 2015.
Dr. Ross became interested in community and population health as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mozambique, where he spent two years teaching biology and health in a local high school. He subsequently worked for several years at the New York Academy of Medicine conducting asthma epidemiology research in East Harlem and the Bronx.
Dr. Ross completed medical school at Weill Cornell Medical College, simultaneously completing a year-long Applied Epidemiology Fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Following medical school, he completed the Montefiore Einstein Primary Care/Social Internal Medicine Residency Program. His current research involves assessing HIV-related outcomes in undocumented immigrants.
Now in its second year, the General Internal Medicine Fellowship provides education, training and experience in mentored research projects to prepare general internists for an academic research career. The fellowship is designed specifically for internal medicine residency program graduates interested in studying urban health issues such as substance abuse, HIV, incarceration, obesity, food security, and violence. Minority candidates interested in researching health disparities and related issues are particularly encouraged to apply.
Chinazo Cunningham, MD, MSFellows complete the Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and earn a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Research Methods. They have access to Montefiore Einstein's comprehensive database systems, which include rich, in-depth data from an extensive array of clinical research studies as well as clinical data from all of Montefiore's inpatient and outpatient facilities. Additionally, fellows can take advantage of a supportive research infrastructure provided by Einstein's centers of excellence such as its Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research, Center for AIDS Research, Diabetes Research Center, and Hispanic Center of Excellence.
"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Ross, and look forward to his research findings," said Dr. Chinazo Cunningham, Director of the Program and Associate Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine.
