Conferences

The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship offers several clinical conferences. All conferences are available by Zoom. We begin the academic year with a PGY4 teaching series from July through September focused on high yield pulmonary topics to help orient the new fellows. We have a series of simulations we run throughout the academic year as well as various focused bootcamps in advanced modalities including point of care ultrasound, advanced bronchoscopy, airway management, cardiothoracic critical care and neurocritical care. In addition to the fellow teaching sessions, we have numerous multidisciplinary and interprofessional conferences.

Critical Care Lecture Series

A diverse series of lectures including essentials of critical care, ultrasound training, case-based topics, ultrasound training sessions, board review and journal club. Attended by critical care division and pulmonary critical care fellows while rotation on critical care services.

Joint Pulmonary, Critical Care Lecture Series

Weekly combined conference between the critical care fellowship and the pulmonary/ critical care and critical care fellows covering core board relevant topics.

Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM) Grand Rounds

Weekly in-house and visiting professor didactics on core board relevant topics in pulmonary medicine, critical care and sleep.

Pulmonary and Critical Care Case Conference

Fellow presents a clinical case and leads a focused discussion on specific clinical questions about the diagnosis and/or management pertinent to the clinical case. This is part of our mixed series of Friday lectures.

Journal Club

Fellow critically reviews and discusses recently published pulmonary or critical care articles. A clinical investigator from our division facilitates discussion using their expertise to teach key clinical concepts as they relate to the article. This is part of our mixed series of Friday lectures.

Morbidity and Mortality Conference

Case based conference led by fellows with goal of identifying system base solutions to near misses or cases resulting in harm. Fellows receive guidance from faculty in preparing and presenting cases and often bring in experts from across specialties to focus on practice-based improvements. Presentations are expected to be nonjudgmental.

Pulmonary Physiology series

A diverse and highly interactive series of discussions including introduction to pulmonary function testing, CPET, and progressing into respiratory and cardiac physiology relevant to pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. Conferences progress to case-based discussions throughout the year.

Multidisciplinary Conferences

Montefiore ILD Conference

Biweekly interdisciplinary case based reviews of challenging and unusual interstitial lung diseases are presented to leverage the expertise of our pulmonologists, radiologists, rheumatologists, and transplant physicians.  Jacobi does have a separate monthly ILD conference.

Asthma Conference

Quarterly interdisciplinary case based reviews of challenging and unusual eosinophilic lung diseases are presented to leverage the expertise of our pulmonologists, allergists, and radiologists.

LVRS Conference

Bimonthly interdisciplinary, case-based reviews of patients with advanced emphysema being considered for lung volume reduction procedures. Conferences include pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, and radiologists who collaborate on patient selection and treatment planning.

Multidisciplinary Infection Conference

Quarterly case-based conference focused on the diagnosis and management of complex pulmonary infections, including nontuberculous mycobacterial disease and bronchiectasis-associated infections. Participants include specialists in infectious diseases, pulmonology, radiology, and thoracic surgery.

Joint Pulmonary and Rheumatology Conference

Fellows and faculty from the Pulmonary and Rheumatology divisions participate in this interdisciplinary, case-based conference. Pulmonary and Rheumatology fellows alternate leading focused discussions on clinical questions related to the diagnosis and management of diseases that overlap both specialties. This conference is incorporated into the Friday educational lecture series.

Chest Radiology Conference

Weekly case-based conference led by thoracic radiologists that focuses on interpretation of chest radiographs and CT imaging. Fellows develop systematic approaches to imaging review and differential diagnosis for a broad range of pulmonary diseases.

Thoracic Oncology Tumor Board

Interdisciplinary conference bringing together pulmonologists, chest radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and thoracic surgeons to discuss the diagnosis, staging, and multidisciplinary management of thoracic malignancies.

Clinical-Pathology Conference

Fellow-led interdisciplinary conference involving Pulmonary, Radiology, and Pathology. Through case presentations, fellows learn to correlate clinical findings, imaging, and pathology to enhance diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making.

Critical Care Grand Rounds

Biweekly educational series featuring invited regional, national, and international experts who present emerging clinical research, evidence-based practices, and advances in critical care medicine.

Research Conference

Fellows participate in a Research-in-Progress conference that brings together basic science, translational, and clinical investigators from across the Pulmonary and Critical Care divisions. Faculty and trainees present ongoing projects, receive constructive feedback, and foster new collaborations and research initiatives.
