Scholarly Activity Research Our residents participate in a wide variety of scholarly activity, from presenting clinical vignettes at regional and national conferences to participating in Quality Improvement research in the hospital and publishing manuscripts. As part of the larger Montefiore community, our residents have access to leading researchers in their fields and can participate in clinical research studies. During the COVID pandemic, many of our residents developed and implemented their own research projects to better understand our patients’ experiences with COVID; many of these projects are still ongoing. Ford-Jodi B. Segal Award for the research “How Physicians Spend Their Work Time: an Ecological Momentary Assessment”, October 2022 Soumya Shivashankar, Honorable Mention in the Clinical Medicine Category at the Medical Society of the State of New York 15th Annual Poster Symposium, May 2022 Lorenzo D'Angelo, Best Abstract Award for his presentation "Endovascular approach to an impending paradoxical embolism through a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO)" at Miami Valves, February 2022 Gerardo Eman, Scholarship Award for his presentation "Understanding the utility of screening for cognitive impairment at hospital discharge in adult survivors of critical illness" at American Thoracic Society Assembly on Critical Care, May 2021 Quality Improvement Curriculum Our Quality Improvement Curriculum is an introduction to fundamental concepts in QI, with lectures and self-learning modules. Residents then design and lead project in teams, running PDSA cycles and presenting their work to their colleagues and faculty. All projects are submitted to the Montefiore Department of Medicine Chair’s Award for Quality Improvement Ideas Contest, an annual contest where awardees receive a grant to support their work.
