Dr. Kuniholm has worked in the fields of HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis epidemiology since he was a graduate student, and conducted the first nationally representative study of hepatitis E virus epidemiology as a post-doctoral researcher at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in 2008. Dr. Kuniholm joined the faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2008 first as an instructor and then as a research assistant professor where he received further training in molecular and genetic epidemiology. Since 2016 Dr. Kuniholm has served as an adjunct research assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at Einstein. Since 2016 Dr. Kuniholm has served on the faculty of the School of Public Health at the University at Albany.  

Dr. Kuniholm’s current research includes molecular, genetic, and clinical epidemiology studies in three study populations supported by the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH): Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study/Women’s Interagency HIV Study Combined Cohort Study (MACS/WIHS CCS); Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) and Central Africa International Epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS (CA-IeDEA). He has authored or co-authored over 50 professional publications, and serves as academic and/or thesis advisor to students in multiple UAlbany School of Public Health degree programs: MPH, MS, and PhD.
