Organoid Innovation and Disease Modelling Unit

The Organoid Innovation and Disease Modeling Unit is an advanced translational research platform within the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM), dedicated to the development and application of physiologically relevant 3D human organoid systems for disease modeling, therapeutic discovery, and precision medicine. The unit provides integrated support for the establishment, expansion, genetic manipulation, and functional characterization of patient-derived and engineered organoid models.

By combining stem cell technologies, genome engineering, co-culture systems, and high-content functional assays, the facility enables investigators to study complex human diseases in biologically relevant environments that closely recapitulate tissue architecture and cellular interactions. The unit emphasizes reproducibility, scalability, and translational applicability to support basic, preclinical, and personalized medicine research.

Organoid Services

  • Organoid Generation & Biobanking: Establishment, expansion, characterization, and cryopreservation of patient-derived and engineered organoid models from healthy and diseased tissues.
  • Humanized 3D Culture Systems: Development of advanced co-culture platforms integrating immune cells, stromal cells, fibroblasts, vascular components, and microbiome interactions.
  • Disease Modeling Platforms: Creation of physiologically relevant models for cancer, inflammatory diseases, genetic disorders, infectious diseases, and regenerative medicine applications.
  • Drug Screening & Therapeutic Testing: High-throughput drug response assays, resistance modeling, toxicity studies, and personalized therapeutic evaluation using organoid-based platforms.
  • Advanced Imaging & Phenotypic Analysis: Live-cell and longitudinal imaging using confocal microscopy and Incucyte CX3 systems for proliferation, invasion, morphology, and functional assessment.
  • Multi-Omics & Translational Integration: Coordination of single-cell omics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and spatial profiling in collaboration with institutional genomics and computational biology cores.
  • Protocol Development & Experimental Consultation: Guidance on experimental design, organoid workflows, assay optimization, translational applications, and collaborative project development.
  • Incucyte CX3 Live-Cell Analysis System: This is an advanced real-time imaging platform for continuous monitoring of living cells, organoids, and spheroids within a standard incubator. Featuring spinning disk confocal, brightfield, and fluorescence (green, orange and NIR) imaging with automated 4×, 10×, and 20× objectives and multi-plate analysis, the system supports high-throughput studies of proliferation, morphology, invasion, immune interactions, drug response, and cytotoxicity in both 2D and 3D culture models.
