August 15, 2023 – Manish Ramesh, M.B.B.S., Ph.D., was appointed as the new chief of the division of allergy and immunology, effective August 1, 2023. An accomplished clinician, researcher, and educator, Dr. Ramesh has made an indelible mark since joining Montefiore in 2014 as an assistant professor of medicine in allergy and immunology. He established the Food Allergy Center at Montefiore Einstein, a critical referral center for managing food allergies in children and adults and the primary provider of oral immunotherapy for food allergies in the Bronx. He was also the clinical director for the division of allergy and immunology. As clinical director, he led numerous initiatives, including EHR-based management of immunotherapy, development of a USP-797 compliant immunotherapy lab, and development of oral immunotherapy and sublingual immunotherapy programs. In addition, he spearheaded the division's response to COVID-19.

Dr. Ramesh completed fellowship training in allergy and immunology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and residency training in internal medicine at Jacobi Medical Center, where he was the best overall resident (PGY3). He attended medical school in India at S.C.B. Medical College and subsequently obtained his Ph.D. in immunology from the University of Connecticut Health Center. Dr. Ramesh is board certified in allergy and immunology and internal medicine. He is the immediate past president of the New York Allergy and Asthma Society and has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, featured in New York Magazine and Westchester Magazine.

A natural choice for this post, Dr. Ramesh was selected by a search committee led by Beth McLellan, M.D., chief of Montefiore Einstein's division of dermatology, after a thorough national search. He will be succeeding David Rosenstreich, M.D., who founded the division in 1980.

“We are grateful for Dr. Rosenstreich's dedication and superb leadership in building one of the largest allergy and immunology divisions in the country,” says Yaron Tomer, M.D., chair of the department of medicine. “We are fortunate that he will still be working with us on the establishment of a new allergic skin disease program (the “itch clinic”) and continue to mentor the division's junior members.”

“I am thrilled to assume the leadership of our division,” Dr. Ramesh says. “We are a close-knit and vibrant team with a shared mission to deliver exceptional academic medical services to our community. Dr. Rosenstreich has been an inspirational leader and teacher who created a stellar clinical and research program. I aim to continue in that vein.”

Adds Dr. Rosenstreich, “I'm delighted that Dr. Ramesh will take over as chief. I can't think of a better person to lead the division and look forward to seeing all the exciting new innovations he puts in place.”
