Education

Montefiore Einstein’s interventional cardiology faculty members train 30 fellows each year through 4 fellowship programs among 3 medical campuses.

Montefiore Einstein training programs allow fellows to choose a level of specialization depending on their individual interests and goals. Three levels of training are offered in accordance with American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines.

  • Level 1 (basic) training, for cardiologists who will practice noninvasive cardiology and whose invasive activities will be confined to critical care unit procedures.
  • Level 2 (intermediate) training, for cardiologists who will practice diagnostic but not interventional cardiac catheterization.
  • Level 3 (advanced) training, for cardiologists who will practice diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, and requires a dedicated fourth year of training.

Fellows have access to the resources of one of the nation’s premier interventional cardiology services, including:

  • 2 diverse yet fully integrated training sites that share chief and faculty, research protocols, cardiology/catheterization databases and data
  • faculty mentors of the highest caliber, with an unparalleled depth of expertise
  • intensive collaboration with cardiac surgeons
  • a large, highly diverse patient population with an extensive variety of cardiac diseases and conditions
  • extensive experience performing cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment procedures, including cardiac catheterizations, angioplasty, stenting, robotic surgery and hybrid procedures
  • nationally and internationally prominent alumni in private practice, academia, and administrative roles
  • active involvement in groundbreaking cardiac research
  • opportunities to publish papers in renowned medical journals
  • close integration with Montefiore Einstein’s internationally renowned Clinical Diabetes Center

The program offers a broad yet meaningful exposure to the full range of cardiovascular subspecialties, from basic science to heart transplants. Montefiore Einstein fellows graduate with a critically informed awareness of how to deliver effective patient care, sound knowledge of best uses and limitations of cardiac therapies, and the ability to make sophisticated treatment decisions with the best interest of the patient in mind.
