The majority of residents at Montefiore are split between the Bronx in Montefiore Medical Center–owned housing or surrounding neighborhoods and the Upper East Side. However, residents travel to work from all over, including many neighborhoods within Manhattan, Queens and New Jersey.
If being close to work is a priority, Montefiore offers two apartment buildings to choose from—Montefiore housing is approximately two minutes away from Monte on foot, and an apartment in Riverdale is 10 minutes away by car or shuttle.
Montefiore Building: This 28-story building is located at 3450 Wayne Avenue, Bronx, NY. Studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units are available. All units have a terrace and central air.
The surrounding neighborhoods of the hospital have affordable, unique housing opportunities that allow a walking commute and the rich culture of the Bronx.
Riverdale Building: This building is located at 3636 Waldo Avenue, Bronx, NY. Studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments are available. All units have central air. Shuttle service is available to and from the hospital.
Harlem: Located in Upper Manhattan with many of Montefiore’s house staff as tenants. It runs from the northern edge of Central Park, Morningside Park on the west and the Harlem River to the north and Fifth Avenue on the east. It is a vibrant mix of cultures, places to eat, and wonderful neighbors to interact with. Located on the #4 subway line, you can make it to work in 20-30 minutes.
Upper East Side: The majority of Monte residents who call Manhattan home live in New York City’s classic neighborhood on the Upper East Side. Running from the East River to Fifth Ave. and between 59th Street and 96th Street, this community boasts delicious restaurants, beautiful parks and plenty of nightlife. If you can find an apartment near the #4 subway line, you’ll be able to make it to and from Monte in less than 40 minutes.
The rest of NYC: If you chose to extend your apartment search beyond the Upper East Side, you’ll want to continue to look for apartments that are close to either the #4 or D subway train. Residents live in Midtown East, Murray Hill, the Upper West Side and multiple other neighborhoods. Some take the subway and some drive to work. If you plan on having a car, Montefiore offers parking for $60/month that can be automatically deducted from your paycheck.
Westchester County: Some residents live in lower Westchester County. Any town below White Plains would be a half hour drive or less.
