T32 Training Grant

The Einstein Aging Research Training Grant (T32) sponsors recruiting and training in aging research at Einstein.

Successfully funded for its third cycle in 2014, IAR's T32 received its second perfect score (10) based on the high quality of research exemplified by the Einstein Nathan Shock Center, the quality of its candidates, their scientific and academic achievements, the number of trainees who are now successful faculty members, the number of MDs trained in research, and the number of minority individuals trained.

Training is focused on four primary areas:

  1. Metabolism/Metabolic Syndrome of Aging, Nir Barzilai, MD
  2. Cognitive Aging and Frailty/Cognitive Function in Aging, Richard Lipton, MD
  3. Genetics of Aging/Role of Genes in Exceptional Longevity, Jan Vijg, PhD
  4. Cellular Aging/Autophagy – Immunosenescence, Ana Maria Cuervo, MD, PhD

Seven predoctoral, postdoctoral, and MD participants are currently trained through the grant. Through the Einstein Nathan Shock Center's unique, state-of-the-art resources and renowned scientists, participants gain advanced research training, enabling them to embark on promising careers involving research in aging and aging-related diseases.

The T32 recently created additional slots for pre-doctoral trainees and post-doctoral trainees. It also provides mentoring experience for young funded investigators who learn to mentor with the support of an experienced co-mentor, resulting in a rich preparatory mentoring environment.
