The PhD in Clinical Investigation (PCI) Identifies, educates, supports, and mentors talented PhD and MD-PhD candidates to become impactful and successful scientists.
- The Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation (PCI) provides rigorous advanced training that prepares individuals for an independent research career in clinical and translational science, which prepares them to conduct research that aims to improve population using the methodologies of clinical and translational science.
- Individual enrolled Einstein’s PhD or MD-PhD programs can take any number of the three rotations in year one with PCI Faculty. NOTE: faculty from any academic department at Einstein may mentor a PCI student, provided they have the qualifications (skills, experience, environment, and support) to serve as a translational research mentor for a predoctoral trainee.
- Additionally, first year graduate students are encouraged to take the course, Design and Conduct of Clinical Research, which provides an overview of clinical research methodology.
- Based on these first-year experiences, Ph.D. students will declare their interest in the Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation (PCI) concentration by the end of the first year. After that, students undertake the additional required courses for the PCI concentration.
Applying to PCI:
The PCI is offered as a Concentration for predoctoral PhD students enrolled in Einstein’s graduate division and for M.D./Ph.D. students in Einstein’s Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). Qualified applicants can find more information about pursuing a PhD in Clinical Investigation (PCI) through the Einstein Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences, or the Medical Scientist Training Program/MSTP.
