Steven M. Safyer, MDDr. Steven Safyer, CEO and President of
Montefiore, has been invited by Mayor-Elect Bill de Blasio to join a transition team of 60 prominent individuals who will select the
city’s next mayoral administration, announced November 20, 2013.
Dr. Safyer will work with the group's esteemed members, including Sex and the City star Cynthia
Nixon, President and FOunder of The Black
Institute Bertha Lewis, and Huffington Post
Chairman and Co-Founder Ken Lerer. Members from
healthcare include George Gresham, president of
1199 SEIU; Dr. Katherine LaGuardia, assistant
clinical professor in OB/GYN at Mount Sinai
Medical Center; Dr. Conchita Mendoza, chief of
geriatrics at University Hospital in Brooklyn;
and Dr. Rafael Lantigua, professor of clinical
medicine at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia. In
addition, his transition committee co-chair Carl
Weisbrod is chairman of the New York State Health
Foundation's board of directors.
According to mayor-elect de Blasio, the
transition team will identify men and women from
throughout the city who are united in their
"commitment to progressive and competent city
government”.
