Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association

Einstein’s chapter of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) addresses the unique health challenges of Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) communities. We aim to promote the health of the APIA community in the Bronx and to help students understand how to care for APIA patients in a culturally sensitive manner. We seek to be an important venue for medical students to develop personally and professionally through mutual mentorship and cultural exchange.

The Carol E. Burnett Black Student Union

The Carol E. Burnett Black Student Union prioritizes the professional, physical, and emotional needs of Black students at Einstein and cultivates cultural awareness of African diasporan issues, history, and culture across campus. We host discussion forums and recreational activities in collaboration with other student groups; serve as a liaison between Black students and Einstein’s leadership and administration; foster community engagement with the local Black community of the Bronx as well as the greater New York City area; and build community among Black students, faculty, and staff at Einstein.

Einstein Minority Scientists Association

The Einstein Minority Scientists Association (EMSA) serves as a formal support system for underrepresented graduate students at Einstein. We promote unity, friendship, intellectual challenge, and encouragement. We also host forums for underrepresented graduate students to express concerns and suggest solutions for issues in the community. All Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. students who attend Einstein are welcome to join as formal members.

Einstein PRIDE

Einstein PRIDE seeks to create a healthy, welcoming, inclusive community among LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and allies. We organize social events on campus and engage in community events to learn more about the surrounding LGBTQ+ community, in addition to working to foster conversations about navigating careers as LGBTQ+ individuals. As an organization based in New York City, Einstein PRIDE has had the unique opportunity to collaborate with other activism organizations, both on and off campus, to promote positive change for the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized communities within New York.

Middle Eastern North African Student Association

Einstein’s Middle Eastern/North African (MENA) Student Association provides students on campus a space to learn more about MENA experiences as well as health challenges faced by MENA populations in our local Bronx community and beyond and to empower students to advocate for the needs of these communities. In the Bronx, we have a rich MENA community with neighborhoods like Little Yemen a few miles from our campus. Additionally, we want students who are from these backgrounds to have a support network of students who share their culture when moving onto campus.

Muslim Student Association

Einstein’s Muslim Students Association seeks to be a supportive, connected community for Muslim students at Einstein. Furthermore, we hope to educate the greater Einstein community on Islam and its intersection with medicine and science.

Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science

Einstein’s Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) is an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans, from college students to professionals, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). At Einstein, our chapter brings together Ph.D. students, M.D./Ph.D. students, and postdoctoral fellows through professional development workshops, community building activities, and outreach initiatives.

White Coats for Black Lives

Einstein’s chapter of White Coats for Black Lives shares the national organization’s stated mission, “To dismantle racism and accompanying systems of oppression in health while simultaneously cultivating means for collective liberation that center the needs, priorities, and self-determination of Black people and other people of color, particularly those most marginalized in our communities.”

As part of our mission, we seek to increase the number of students from minority backgrounds pursuing careers in the sciences, especially medicine and research, through mentoring, exposure to summer research programs, and networking opportunities.
