Professional Interests

Steven M. Koehler MD, FAAOS, is an attending physician in Hand, Upper Limb & Microsurgery and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery and Associate Professor, Orthopedic Surgery at Montefiore-Einstein.

Dr. Koehler specializes in the treatment of complex disorders of the upper extremity. He has particular interests in brachial plexus injuries (birth and traumatic), congenital hand disorders, peripheral nerve surgery, and upper extremity reconstruction utilizing nerve transfers, tendon transfers, and free tissue transfer (microvascular reconstruction). He is a recognized expert in the field of complex upper extremity reconstruction and regularly lectures and teaches nationally and internationally on this topic.

Dr. Koehler is board certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, with an additional subspecialty certification in surgery of the hand, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Association for Hand Surgery, chairing and serving on multiple committees.
