National Academy of Sciences

Established by an Act of Congress and signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) provides independent, objective advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology. Scientists are elected by their peers to membership in the NAS for outstanding contributions to research. The NAS is committed to furthering science in America, and its members are active contributors to the international scientific community.

National Academy of Medicine

The NAM has more than 2,400 members elected in recognition of professional achievement and commitment to volunteer service in activities of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the National Academies). The NAM elects no more than 90 regular members and 10 international members annually. For those at the top of their field, NAM membership reflects the height of professional achievement and commitment to service. Scientists are elected by their peers to membership in NAM.

American Society of Clinical Investigation

The ASCI is composed of more than 3,000 physician-scientists representing all medical specialties. Founded in 1908, the ASCI is one of the nation’s oldest medical honor societies and is among the few organizations focused on the special role of physician-scientists in research, clinical care, and medical education, as well as leadership positions in academic medicine and the life sciences industry.
