Dr. Catherine Skae is vice president for Graduate Medical Education at Montefiore Medical Center and associate dean for Graduate Medical Education at Einstein. In this position, Dr. Skae oversees Montefiore's Office of Graduate Medical Education and House Staff Office, as well as interactions with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the professional organization responsible for accrediting roughly 9,200 residency education programs in the United States. Montefiore's training program is one of the largest in the country, training more than 1,250 residents across 86 accredited clinical programs sponsored by Einstein.

Dr. Skae's experience in medical education leadership at Montefiore spans more than a decade. She has served as assistant chief of service, residency training director, and vice chair for education in the Department of Pediatrics for Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Einstein. During her tenure, more than a dozen residency and fellowship programs in CHAM received outstanding reviews and commendations from the national review committees.

Dr. Skae serves on the Einstein Committee on Student Promotions and Professional Standards, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education Institutional Task Force, and the LCME Clinical Teaching Facilities Subcommittee. She is a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee as well as several of its sub-committees: the Next Accreditation System and Milestones Subcommittee, the Balance/Quality of Life Subcommittee, the Clinical Learning Environment Review Subcommittee, and the Transitions of Care Subcommittee. She serves on the Moses Division Council, the Medical Executive Committee and Medical Affairs Executive Committee.

As an attending physician in the Department of Pediatrics at CHAM and associate professor of clinical pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics at Einstein, Dr. Skae’s interests include mentorship, patient and family satisfaction, patient safety and quality improvement. She directs the Touched by Carolyn Program that donates iTouches to children and adolescents undergoing radiation therapy at CHAM and across the country.

Dr. Skae received her M.D. degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency at Einstein/Montefiore, where she also served as chief resident before being recruited to join the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at CHAM. She is the recipient of an honorary doctorate from St. Thomas Aquinas College and has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching. She also has published articles in peer-reviewed journals including Medical Education and authored chapters and review articles in Contemporary Pediatrics and other publications.
