Professional Interests
Dr. Nissinoff is a physiatrist, a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor. His current research focus is on the inpatient rehabilitation of individuals with heart failure who have undergone implantation of a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). The LVAD assists the heart in pumping blood through the circulatory system.
As a result, patients are deconditioned – that is they have heart muscle loss due to decreased physical effort – and can benefit from inpatient rehabilitation if they are too weak to go directly home after cardiac surgery.
Dr. Nissinoff has also studied migraine disorders particularly as they relate to interferon-beta treatment of multiple sclerosis, a disabling disorder of the central nervous system.
