All hematology fellows except the Jacobi fellow attend a Montefiore-Moses monthly coagulation conference.
Educational Purpose
- To discuss interesting hemostasis cases or laboratory data.
- To learn the mechanisms of normal hemostasis, the laboratory procedures used for diagnosis, and the interpretation of laboratory tests.
Principal Teaching Method
Fellows present cases or laboratory data as they occur, and the course leader presents topics or cases. The conference is run as a seminar with participation by all attendees.
Most Important Educational Content
Fellows are exposed to all aspects of hemostasis. They learn how to diagnose and treat disorders. In conjunction with the laboratory rotation, they learn how to run a clinical laboratory.
Site’s Resources
Material is drawn from the 760 bed inpatient and out-patient service, the clinical laboratory, and the hemostasis private practice. Discussions are held in the Hematology conference room described above.
