Schedules All categorical interns rotate on a 6+2 schedule which means 2 weeks of outpatient medicine (continuity clinic, outpatient didactics, independent learning) after every 6 weeks of inpatient medicine. This allows you to be fully present, whether in the hospital or the clinic. Preliminary interns also rotate on a 6+2 schedule but instead of 2 weeks of outpatient medicine, you will have non-ward/non-ICU rotations, e.g. electives, vacation. 6+2 Schedule PGY1 ROTATION MONTHS/YEAR Inpatient Wards + Night Medicine 6 Intensive Care Unit 1 Outpatient Medicine 3 Geriatrics 0.5 Elective 0.5 Vacation 1 PGY2 ROTATION MONTHS/YEAR Inpatient Wards + Night Medicine 4 Intensive Care Unit 1.5 Cardiac Care Unit 0.5 Oncology 0.5 Outpatient Medicine 3 Elective 1.5 Vacation 1 PGY3 ROTATION MONTHS/YEAR Inpatient Wards + Night Medicine 3 Intensive Care Unit 1 Cardiac Care Unit 0.5 Emergency Medicine 1 Outpatient Medicine 3 Elective 2.5 Vacation 1 Inpatient Ward time includes General Medical Floors, Telemetry, and Cardiac Telemetry.
