T. S. Dharmarajan, MD, FACP, AGSF The American College of Physicians (ACP) Board of Regents has voted to elect Dr. T. S. Dharmarajan, MD, FACP, AGSF to Mastership.
ACP Mastership is conferred on a select number of candidates deemed distinguished through the practice of internal medicine. Masters candidates are selected for their embodiment of strength of character, integrity, bravery, perseverance, compassion, devotion, and steadiness, and clinical competence and for their service as a mentor, advocacy for quality in medicine, a commitment to social justice, deep interest in people, and the creation of communities of medicine. They are considered citizen physicians, educational innovators, humanists, and inspiring learner-teachers who set high quality standards in the practice of medicine.
Dr. Dharmarajan is the Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center's Wakefield Campus, Clinical Director of the Division of Geriatrics of Montefiore, and the Director of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program sponsored by Einstein. A fellow of the ACP and of the American Geriatrics Society, Dr. Dharmarajan is currently a Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean of the New York Medical College and the author of more than 150 publications (in peer-reviewed journals or chapters in textbooks) and 200 abstracts (scientific presentations) at state, national or international meetings. He co-edited the textbook Clinical Geriatrics (CRC Press/Parthenon Publishing, 2003, and recently completed a Textbook of Geriatric Gastroenterology (Springer), released in 2012.
Dr. Dharmarajan has been a principal or co-investigator for several research projects, with an interest in nutrition and anemia pertinent to geriatrics. He has served on numerous committees, including the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of Montefiore Medical Center, and has won numerous awards for his commitment to programs, patient care, education and research. He is currently the President of the Montefiore Medical Center Wakefield Campus Council. He is board certified in internal medicine, nephrology, and geriatric medicine and in quality assurance and utilization review.
Dr. Dharmarajan will be presented Mastership on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at a convocation ceremony during the ACP annual meeting in San Francisco.
