The Division of Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (formerly known as the Division of Urogynecology) provides evaluation and management of urinary/pelvic floor disorders, including incontinence, infections, interstitial cystitis, and urethral syndrome. Division faculty also specialize in the evaluation and treatment of menopause-related incontinence. Multichannel urodynamics, neurophysiologic studies, ultrasonographic/fluoroscopic studies and cystourethroscopy are performed at the Divisional site at Montefiore Medical Center.

Surgical options can include retropubic urethropexies, paravaginal repairs, needle suspensions, vaginal/abdominal cystocele, rectocele and enterocele repairs, vaginal/abdominal paravaginal repairs, uterosacral plications, abdominal sacrocolpopexies and sacrospinous ligament fixations, and suburethral slings. Conservative management is emphasized, and includes instruction of patients concerning pelvic exercises, hormone replacement therapy, pessaries, and behavior modification. Evaluation of chronic pelvic pain from causes other than the female genital organs is also performed. This includes evaluation of urinary, musculoskeletal, and gastrointestinal tract sources.
