The application for a promotion to a senior rank must be submitted to the Office of Academic Appointments by October 15th of any calendar year, to become effective July 1st of the following year. The following documents are required as part of the promotion packet: 

  1. A completed and signed Faculty Promotion Department Recommendation Form (must be typed).
  2. Una carta de recomendación detallada y completa del director del departamento que aborde los criterios objetivos especificados en las "Directrices sugeridas para la promoción al rango sénior" ( Carrera de investigador, Carrera de investigador médico, Carrera de educador clínico, Carrera de profesor investigador, Carrera de científico de planta y Carrera de educador ). La carta del director debe indicar en qué carrera se propone al candidato. La carta de recomendación del director también debe incluir una referencia a la revisión de la nominación para el nombramiento y la recomendación asociada por parte del comité de revisión del departamento. Para cumplir con sus responsabilidades, los Comités de Nombramientos y Ascensos necesitan información clara y explícita sobre los logros del candidato y sus contribuciones propuestas a los objetivos académicos de la Facultad de Medicina. Por lo tanto, la carta de recomendación debe incluir, según corresponda, una evaluación cuantitativa y cualitativa de las actividades de investigación, docencia, clínicas y administrativas del candidato. Los comentarios específicos y detallados son esenciales para la evaluación justa y precisa de los logros del candidato.
  3. A copy of the candidate’s current curriculum vitae and bibliography, using the attached format. If the attached format is not followed exactly, the nomination will be returned to the department for revision.
  4. For applications in the Educator-Clinician Track and Educator Track, a Teaching Portfolio must be included. For applications on the Investigator Track, Physician Investigator Track, and Research Professor Track, submitting a Teaching Portfolio is strongly encouraged.
  5. Referees:
    • The names, address and email addresses of four referees who do not currently have Einstein faculty appointments.  These individuals must be capable of assessing the candidate's accomplishments; however, they should not have worked closely with the candidate. *For candidates on the Educator-Clinician Track, outside reviewers can also include former trainees who have achieved senior faculty status at an external institution.
    • The names of four senior Einstein faculty members capable of assessing the candidate's accomplishments.
    • The names, address and email addresses of four students, residents and/or fellows (as applicable) who can evaluate the candidate's teaching ability.
  6. Si corresponde, una copia de cuatro o cinco de los productos académicos más actuales y significativos del candidato.

Joint Promotions

Where a faculty member is being proposed for a promotion to more than one academic department, the Faculty Promotion Department Recommendation Form must be signed by both departmental chairs and submitted with each chair's letter of recommendation.

Secondary and Tertiary Promotions

The following documents are to be submitted to the Office of Academic Appointments:

  1. A completed Faculty Promotion Department Recommendation Form signed by the primary departmental chair as well as the secondary and/or tertiary departmental chair (must be typed).
     
  2. A detailed and comprehensive letter of recommendation from the chair of the secondary and/or tertiary department that addresses the objective criteria specified in the "Suggested Guidelines for Promotion to Senior Rank". The chair's letter of recommendation should also include reference to the review of the proposed promotion and associated recommendaton by the departmental review committee. To accomplish its charges, the Committee on Appointments and Promotions needs clear and explicit information about the candidate's contributions to the academic goals of the College of Medicine. The letter of recommendation should include, as applicable, a quantitative and qualitative asessment of the candidate's research, teaching, clinical and administrative activities contributed to the College of Medicine, its affiliated institutions and other local, national and international activities. Specific and detailed comments are essential for the fair and accurate assessment of the candidate's accomplishments.
     
  3. A copy of the candidate's current curriculum vitae and bibliography, using the attached format.  If the attached format is not followed exactly, the nomination will be returned to the department for revision.

Under no circumstances should individuals use their proposed titles until such titles are approved in writing.
