Program Leadership
Director: David H. Ciocon, M.D.
A graduate of Harvard University, UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical Scool, Brown University, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, Dr. David Ciocon has written multiple publications on surgical and non-surgical approaches to aesthetic rejuvenation. He has clinical interests in Mohs surgeries and reconstructions, facial reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, laser-assisted tumescent liposuction, autologous fat transfer, laser medicine, and minimally invasive cosmetic dermatology. He is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American College of Mohs Surgery; serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy; and is a preceptor for the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
The Fellowship Experience
Overview
Albert Einstein College of Medicine's one-year, ACGME-approved Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship offers post-graduate training in the following areas:
- Cutaneous oncology
- Mohs micrographic surgery
- Procedural dermatology
- Cosmetic and laser medicine
Weekly Cosmetic Clinics
During weekly cosmetic clinics, fellows receive comprehensive training in the use of:
- Fillers
- Neurotoxins
- Chemical peels
- Sclerotherapy
- Vascular lasers
- Hair removal lasers
- Pigmented lesion lasers
- Light-based devices
- Fractional resurfacing devices
- Non-ablative lasers
Advanced Cosmetic Techniques
Fellows receive training in techniques including:
- Tumescent liposuction
- Autologous fat transfer
- Endovenous ablation
- Non-invasive body contouring involving ultrasound/radiofrequency based devices
- Blepharoplasty
- Rhytidectomy
- Hair transplantation
Supplementary Curriculum
- Didactic lectures
- Cadaver and pig’s feet workshops
- Textbook and journal article reviews
- Slide review sessions with dermatopathology
- Weekly participation in grand rounds of the Division of Dermatology
- Mandatory multi-disciplinary rotations with otolaryngology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery, and podiatry
- Coding and billing of dermatologic surgery procedures
- Quality assurance
- Laboratory management of a Mohs surgery facility
Training Sites
Training takes place in state-of-the-art, CLIA-certified, outpatient ambulatory facilities, where fellows complete 1000 surgical cases, at least 500 of which are Mohs cases.
Teaching Experience
Fellows also serve as instructors in a resident dermatologic surgery clinic, presiding over a variety of standard excisional and nail surgery cases.
Research
Fellows have one half day each week allocated for research time and are expected to submit one manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal or deliver a presentation at a national meeting by the end of the year. Funding is provided for fellows to attend the annual meetings of American College of Mohs Surgery and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

Interviews
