Professional Interests

Dr. Waleed Abuzeid is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  He received his medical degree from University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom.  He went on to complete a 2 year post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Abuzeid graduated from the University of Michigan Department of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery residency program.  He then completed a fellowship in endoscopic sinus surgery and skull base surgery at Stanford University. 

Dr. Abuzeid provides comprehensive care for sinus disease incorporating the range of medical and surgical treatments. Furthermore, Dr. Abuzeid also cares for patients with skull base tumors, sinus or nasal tumors, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, and sinonasal allergy.  His research is focused on the discovery and development of novel molecular therapies for head and neck cancer, including cancers of the skull base. Dr. Abuzeid has received competitive research grants for this work. Most recently, he is collaborating with other investigators at Einstein to study cutting-edge treatments for bacterial biofilms which are key mediators of chronic rhinosinusitis, and to develop new and safer techniques for the diagnosis of aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, a particularly severe form of chronic sinusitis.

Dr. Abuzeid has published many peer-reviewed journal articles on both translational research and clinical subjects in the field of otolaryngology: head and neck surgery, and has co-authored multiple textbook chapters.  He has presented at many national meetings including the American Academy of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery, the American Head and Neck Society, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the North American Skull Base Society.  He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery, the American Rhinologic Society, and the North American Skull Base Society.
