The cell phenotype is tightly regulated by epigenetic mechanisms, which drive the formation of specialized tissues even though all the cells of an organism share the same DNA. Histone proteins modulate DNA readout through their post-translational modifications (PTMs) by folding chromatin and recruiting chromatin interacting proteins. Our work is focused on deciphering the biological role of chromatin dynamics, histone modifications and their impact on disease development. We do this creating new methods in mass spectrometry and utilizing innovative 3D cell culture to model aberrant chromatin states.
