Professional Interests

I am a public health scholar whose research aims to reduce cancer burden and disparities, especially for women’s cancers (cervical and breast) and in low-resource settings. As a Social Behavioral Scientist, I leverage expertise in health behavior and health promotion sciences to study cancer education, prevention, screening, and care and to design and evaluate behavioral interventions to improve community uptake of effective cancer control practices and strategies.

My previous and ongoing research includes studies on motivating factors and barriers to cancer screening, implementation and health service delivery, peer education and navigation, and psychosocial aspects of cancer diagnosis and treatment. I lead a five-year NCI-funded study (U01CA294799) that uses a peer telementoring model to increase capacity of hospitals to implement cervical cancer screening, triage, and treatment with HPV self-collection for people living with HIV in Ethiopia. As faculty in the Center for Global Health, I direct a 3-week summer oncology research training program for Einstein medical students in Ethiopia. Locally, I am PI for an American Cancer Society quality improvement grant to increase breast and cervical cancer screening in the Bronx, where I have the privilege of working with collaborators across several Montefiore and Einstein departments and oversee a team of 7 MS3 interns, bringing screening to upwards of 250 patients each year. Service activities include being an invited Member of the National Roundtable on Cervical Cancer and Assistant Editor of the Journal of Cancer Education.
