Governor's Visit
Governor Cuomo Speaks on the State of Healthcare at Einstein and Montefiore
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo; Dr. Steven Safyer, president and CEO of Montefiore Medicine; George Gresham, president of the 1199SEIU; and other elected officials and dignitaries came to the Einstein campus yesterday to speak about healthcare funding and quality care at an event sponsored by the 1199SEIU, a union that represents healthcare workers. A crowd of about 1,000 Einstein and Montefiore associates filled Robbins Auditorium and spilled over into the nearby Lubin Dining Hall, a satellite location set up to accommodate the overflow.
Governor Cuomo explained how millions of New Yorkers now covered under the Affordable Care Act stand to lose their insurance and discussed plans to help support Montefiore.
Dr. Safyer, a 1982 Einstein graduate, spoke of Montefiore and Einstein’s longstanding commitment to social justice and providing quality healthcare and education to everyone.
Mr. Gresham emphasized the importance of receiving quality care from dedicated health workers.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. praised Einstein and Montefiore’s contributions to the community’s health and economic well-being and called for continued support of Governor Cuomo.
New York State Senator and Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein, a long-time supporter of Montefiore and Einstein, spoke about working not only locally but nationally to protect the right to quality healthcare.
