Peter von Homeyer, MD, FASE, is Chief, Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at Montefiore Einstein and Professor, Anesthesiology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. von Homeyer is an experienced cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesiologist who provides perioperative care for patients with advanced cardiovascular disease. He has a special interest in anesthesia for thoracic organ transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, particularly extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).<br /> <br />After earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2001, Dr. von Homeyer completed his residency in anesthesiology and fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia at the University Hospital Münster in Münster, Germany, in 2006. He subsequently completed his fellowship in critical care medicine at the same institution in 2007.<br /> <br />Dr. von Homeyer’s research seeks to improve outcomes for patients undergoing complex cardiovascular procedures, particularly mechanical circulatory support, thoracic organ transplantation and postoperative critical care. He has a special focus on educational research and simulation in healthcare. Dr. von Homeyer’s work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, books, chapters and review articles. He has also shared his<br />work through abstracts and invited presentations.<br /> <br />Dr. von Homeyer is board-certified by the German Board of Medical Specialties in Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Echocardiography and is board certified in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography and Critical Care Echocardiography. Dr. von Homeyer is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE), a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) and a member of the International Anesthesia<br />Research Society (IARS), among others.<br />
