Biography

<p>Saachi Sachdev, MD, is Director, Dr. Martin Surks FCC Endocrinology Clinic at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Sachdev practices general endocrinology and sees patients for conditions including primary hyperparathyroidism, osteoporosis, pituitary disorders, hypo/hyperthyroidism, adrenal gland disorders, Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and type 2 diabetes. She has established a pediatric-to-adult endocrinology care transition pathway to support young adult patients with non-type 1 diabetes diagnoses navigating the vulnerable transition to adult care.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts at Harvard University in 2009, Dr. Sachdev earned her Doctor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in 2013. She then completed an internship in medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center in 2014, followed by her residency in medicine at the same institution in 2016. In 2020, Dr. Sachdev completed an endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.</p><p>Dr. Sachdev helps lead the Division of Endocrinology's quality improvement initiatives and has established a quality improvement curriculum for the endocrinology fellowship program. Her research aligns with her clinical focus and has been published in several peer-reviewed journals and abstracts.</p><p>Dr. Sachdev is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine. As Chief of the Endocrinology Division at Jacobi she is responsible for the clinical endocrine inpatient and outpatient operations at Jacobi and North Central Bronx Hospitals.</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13.3333px;"> She actively participates in the teaching of endocrinology fellows, internal medicine residents and Einstein medical students. Her education philosophy is to empower learners to drive their own educational goals/learning. She is interested in the use of diabetes technology to manage low health literacy patients with diabetes. She is also the Director of the Weight Management Program at Jacobi.</span></p>

She is also interested in the role of adipose tissue inflammation in the pathogenesis of the metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. As an extension to her interest in adipose inflammation, she has investigated the role of vitamin D deficiency in Type 2 diabetes and whether it may regulate adipose inflammation/fibrosis. </span></p>

<p>Shivani Agarwal, MD, MPH, is Director of the <span class="comment-text">SEAD (<a href="sead">Supporting Emerging Adults with Diabetes</a>) program </span>at Montefiore and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since joining the Montefiore team in 2018, her clinical focus has been on the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in patients aged 18 to 35 years old.</p><p>In 2001, Dr. Agarwal received her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience at Wellesley College. From 2005 to 2010, she attended New York University School of Medicine where she received her Doctor of Medicine. During this time, Dr. Agarwal also attended Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health pursuing her Master of Public Health degree, which she received in 2009.</p><p>Dr. Agarwal began her postgraduate training in 2010 with a yearlong internship in Internal Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She continued to train at this institution and completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 2013. Following this, in 2015, Dr. Agarwal completed a fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship in 2016.</p><p>Extending from her clinical focus, Dr. Agarwal&rsquo;s research concentrates on clinical and behavioral interventions in young adults with type 1 diabetes.
