Elizabeth Daphne Verter
After receiving her medical degree from the University of Queensland School of Medicine, Dr. Verter completed her medicine internship and neurology residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She was the recipient of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Sylvia Lawry Physician Fellowship Grant that supported her completion of a two-year neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital. During this time, she also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Research at Icahn School of Medicine. Dr. Verter specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of adult and adolescent multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, neurosarcoidosis, autoimmune encephalitis, and other inflammatory diseases that affect the central nervous system.

<p>Joshua Kahan, MBBS, PhD, is an attending physician at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Medicine and Neurology and Associate Program Director, Neurocritical Care Fellowship at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kahan’s clinical focus centers on caring for people with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracerebral hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, status epilepticus, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular respiratory failure and meningoencephalitis.</p><p>After earning his Bachelor of Science at University College London (UCL), Dr. Kahan remained at UCL to earn his Doctor of Philosophy in clinical neuroscience in 2014, and his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 2016. He then pursued an academic foundation doctor internship at Whipps Cross Hospital and The Royal London Hospital. Dr. Kahan continued his medical training in the United States, completing an internship in internal medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine in 2019 and his neurology residency at the same institution in 2022. Following this, he completed a fellowship in Neurocritical Care at Columbia University/Weill Cornell Medicine in 2024.</p><p>Dr. Kahan’s research focuses on harnessing neuroimaging and novel technologies to help diagnose, treat and understand acute brain injuries. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications such as <em>Brain, NeuroImage, Neurology, JAMA Neurology</em> and <em>Nature Medicine</em>, and he has shared his work through national and international presentations and abstracts. He has also been a reviewer for several scientific journals.</p><p>Dr. Kahan is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Neurology and Neurocritical care.</p>

Johanna Seiden
<p>Johanna Seiden, MD, MPH, is an attending physician and Assistant Professor, Neurology at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Seiden is specifically interested in stroke in the young, as well as stroke associated with systemic disease.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in biopsychology from Tufts University in 2012, Dr. Seiden earned her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health at the same institution in 2018. She then came to Montefiore Einstein to continue her medical training, completing an internal medicine internship in 2019 and her residency in neurology in 2022, where she was Chief Resident in her final year. Following this, Dr. Seiden completed a fellowship in vascular neurology at New York University, in 2023.</p><p>Dr. Seiden participates in stroke disparities research both nationally and internationally. She is also interested in improving medical education in stroke. Her work has been through invited presentations and peer-reviewed publications.</p>
