<p>Mark H. Einstein, MD, is the Chella & Moise Safra Endowed Chair and Department Chair, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at Montefiore Einstein and Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Einstein is an internationally renowned expert in gynecologic oncology and gynecologic cancer prevention. He is very active clinically and manages complicated gynecologic precancers and malignancies using state-of-the-art evidence-based clinical and surgical strategies. He also leads and offers clinical trial options.</p><p>Throughout his career, Dr. Einstein has demonstrated his commitment to caring for patient populations, with direct experience and success as a clinician, surgeon-scientist, educator, mentor, and administrator. He is internationally acclaimed as a clinician-scientist and brings a national leadership profile that will help sustain Montefiore Einstein’s stature as a top-rated and highly respected academic medical center.</p><p>After completing a combined BS/MD program at the University of Miami in 1995, Dr. Einstein completed a residency in obstetrics & gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey in 1999. He completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Montefiore Einstein in 2002, then stayed on as faculty as a clinician and researcher and, early in his career, he earned his Master of Science in clinical research methods in 2005.</p><p>Dr. Einstein’s research focuses on the human papillomavirus (HPV). He has been principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous funded research projects and clinical trials and his work has been published in over 140 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Einstein has also given numerous invited presentations nationally and internationally, and is a reviewer for several scientific journals.</p><p>As a surgical specialist who has mentored dozens of junior faculty, Dr. Einstein has a long track record of appreciation for the contributions of faculty who come from all training and demographic backgrounds. He is firmly committed to a culture of mutual respect and support, advocating its critical role in a health system’s success. Additionally, as a surgeon and scientist, he has a results-proven track record of his collaborative ability to operationalize translational medicine teams and clinical programs across disciplines.</p><p>Dr. Einstein is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in General Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He holds and has held many leadership roles in the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO), The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), and the Society of Lower Genital Tract Diseases (ASCCP). He is also an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics.</p>

<p style="margin:0in;line-height:16.8px;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:11pt;line-height:15.4px;font-family:Arial, sans-serif;">Theofano Orfanelli MD, PhD, FACOG, is Assistant Program Director, Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Orfanelli specializes in advanced abdominal-pelvic and minimally invasive surgeries for gynecologic cancers. She is highly focused on managing hereditary cancer syndromes, ensuring personalized patient care and implementing leading-edge surgical techniques.</span></p><p style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:18.56px;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif;"> </p><p style="margin:0in;line-height:16.8px;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:11pt;line-height:15.4px;font-family:Arial, sans-serif;">In 2010, Dr. Orfanelli earned her Doctor of Medicine from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine in Athens, Greece, where she graduated as valedictorian. She then pursued a postdoctoral research fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medicine, completing it in 2013, followed by an obstetrics and gynecology internship at the same institution in 2014. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from 2014 to 2017, during which she completed the Brunschwig Gynecologic Oncology Rotating Residency at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 2015. Dr. Orfanelli then pursued a three-year gynecologic oncology fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, completing it in 2020. In 2021, she received her Doctor of Philosophy from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine. Dr. Orfanelli is currently completing her Master of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.</span></p><p style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:18.56px;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif;"> </p><p style="margin:0in;line-height:16.8px;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:11pt;line-height:15.4px;font-family:Arial, sans-serif;">Dr. Orfanelli's research emphasizes early detection of gynecologic malignancies and cancer immunotherapy. She is actively involved in clinical trials and seeks to advance the understanding and treatment of gynecologic cancers through innovative research methodologies. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, poster presentations and invited talks. Dr. Orfanelli is a peer reviewer for several publications including Cell, Gynecologic Oncology and the International Journal of Gynecologic Cancer, among others.</span></p><p style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:18.56px;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif;"> </p><p style="margin:0in;line-height:16.8px;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:11pt;line-height:15.4px;font-family:Arial, sans-serif;">Dr. Orfanelli is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS), among others. She has served and still serves as a member to multiple committees for the SGO. In 2018, Dr. Orfanelli was awarded the Perlman Family Colon Cancer Alliance for Research and Education (CCARE) Lynch Syndrome Research Prize from the Foundation for Women’s Cancer. In 2022, she received the American Cancer Society (ACS) Institutional Research Grant.</span></p>
